A West Coast Biased Bowl: The Eh? Bowl
I originally posted this over at Cal Golden Blogs. My idea is to create a new BCS bowl to be played in Vancouver, B.C.'s new BC Place indoor stadium (seats 60k). This would be a football/winter sports fans paradise. The game itself would take a second place Pac-10 team ranked in the Top 16 of the BCS vs. the highest BCS ranked Mtn West/Wac team (that's also in the BCS Top 16). In the even that this doesn't happen, one of the spots will be an at-large bid and awarded to a Top 16 team. I post this here because Utah, from a retrospective sense, would have played in this bowl a bunch of years. Please feel free to comment here or there! I welcome comments and critiques.

oops…I posted this over at Block U and forgot to delete “Utah” and replace it with “ASU.”
ASU would have played # 12 Hawaii last year (retrospectively),

I like the idea, but it still doesn’t solve the undefeated Boise State problem. Just gives the BCS a place to stick the teams they don’t want.

No
It’s just not realistic.
The next bowl in line to be a BCS bowl is the Cotton since they’re moving to Jerry Jones’ new palace.

that is true and, if they keep the current bowl rules of 2 teams/conference, this should create more of an opportunity for a # 2 pac-10 team to get a chance. But there are some logistical obstacles…namely, the Big 12 – Cotton & Fiesta love. Someone’s going to have to split.

Out of country
I also question trying to build up a major bowl outside of the US. I know Vancouver is close to the border but I can’t imagine that it would draw much interest from the local community. Plus, by taking the #2 team from the Pac 10 that weakens the Holiday Bowl, which is a game with a fairly good rep in a great city against a BCS team.
I think it would make more sense to boost the profile of the Insight Bowl in Phoenix — give them the #3 Pac 10 school, put it on New Year’s Day at around 10-11AM to make sure it finishes up before the Rose Bowl, and bump the Sun Bowl down to #4.

Tom Hansen
has said that the reason the Pac 10 only has the one New Year’s Day game is because he knows fans don’t want to go to football games before noon. The real reason is that he doesn’t want to compete against the traditional Noon ET bowl games.

All of the pro franchises love the Canada-US thing. I’ve also found out that the BC Lions aren’t a soccer team, rather they are a CFL team that draws 35 k for your typical CFL game. Not too shabby. Given the novelty and quality of this BCS game, the local love should definitely be there.
The Holiday Bowl will be # 3 Pac-10 vs. # 4 Big 12. I know it’s offiically # 3 Big 12, but the Southwest Conference domination will almost always have 2 Big 12 teams in the BCS…the 3rd best team will go to the Cotton, and the 4th best will go to the Holiday. To me, that sounds better than # 2 Pac-10 vs. # 4 Big 12. How are we supposed to get respect with tie-ins like that???
Your insight bowl idea sounds interesting, but I would add move it to 1.2 or 1.3. There are already too many games on 1.1.

I think a different venue would be more appropriate.
Obviously bowl expansion is a popular idea for the sponsers and everything – many stadiums now host multiple bowl games – but until some sort of playoff is implemented i am still rather “meh” on the college football post season.
