BYU Officially Drops ASU From 2009 Schedule
In a press release, BYU has announced their OOC schedule, and instead of ASU, they are now playing Oklahoma.
BYU will start the 2009 season on Sept. 5 against currently No. 1-ranked Oklahoma in a historic game being played at the Dallas Cowboys new stadium in Arlington, Texas. As two of only seven teams to win 10 or more games each of the last three seasons, the Cougars and Sooners will be featured in the first college game played in the new stadium. The Labor Day weekend contest will kick off in primetime and be televised on ABC or ESPN as part of the second annual ESPN Kickoff Week presented by Gillette.
Bring on Louisiana-Monroe. We really don't need another OOC demoralizing loss on our 2009 ledger, as Georgia will certainly lay the beat down on us (unless they lose both Stafford and Moreno, thus causing a possibility for our victory).

Well
we did lose to UNLV this year. I don’t think a win over ULM is any kind of guarantee at this point.

Unfortunately...
Sad to say, but that could be the difference between going to a bowl next season and staying home for the holidays again. I didn’t feel at all confident about BYU and even though ULM beat Alabama last year, they are still a good bet to be lousy enough to allow us to muddle through a W.

Not really sure
if that makes much of a difference bowl-wise. If anything, it should make a bowl more attainable. Unlike basketball, bowls are not decided by RPI. It’s still a FBS win which will count towards our total. It’s not like we added a FCS team in it’s place. Finish in the top-6 of the Pac with a 6 game minimum and we’ll still be bowling. And really, would you rather spend the holidays in Hawaii, Vegas or El Paso?
Unless you were saying that a BYU loss vs a ULM win is the difference, then I will shut my mouth.

Thought this was interesting
from Bordow’s column (that guy drives me nuts sometimes…):
What’s truly odious is that ASU is asking for more money from its fans while giving them a less attractive home schedule to watch. BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe confirmed Wednesday what many of us have suspected for a while: It was ASU that asked out of their scheduled Sept. 12 game at Sun Devil Stadium.
“ASU wanted to get out of our game for the next couple of years,” Holmoe said in a radio interview. “They wanted out.”
ASU officials dispute Holmoe’s claim, saying they were asked by ESPN to back out so the cable network could help arrange a BYU-Oklahoma game, which will be played at the new Dallas Cowboys’ stadium on Sept. 5. In return, say the officials, the network will owe ASU down the line.

I think it was probably a little of both, but I doubt ASU asked for the release. I’m sure ESPN had plenty to do with it.
ULM beat Alabama last year, so I wouldn’t exactly call them a guaranteed win like Bordow does later in his column.
