ASU fires Offensive Coordinator Rich Olson

Link to article

Arizona State is in the market for a new offensive coordinator.

Dennis Erickson said Thursday that he is not bringing Rich Olson back for a fourth season, the first coordinator-level change since Erickson became head coach in 2007. The move comes after a second consecutive losing season, the first of Erickson college career, in which ASU was 90th or below nationally in total, rushing and scoring offense.

2 words: Thank God

So let the speculation begin on the new OC....

it's gonna be a DE guy

I know Martz used to be at ASU back in the 80’s but I just can’t believe he’d take that job.

Yeah, he's still a NFL guy

can’t imagine he’d take a coordinator job in college.

The name I keep seeing is Tim Lappano

Detroit Lions TE coach

He was DE’s OC at OSU when they went 11-1 and trashed ND in the Fiesta. Reportedly he was DE’s first choice for OC when he came to ASU, but Lappano chose to stay at UW under Willingham.

Me too

I don’t have anything against the guy or know much about him but I read his bio and he has changed jobs like crazy. I know this is common for coaches but it just seemed more than others. I want someone young, creative, and not set in their ways for our OC. Maybe it is just the silver hair that he has resembling DE, but I can just see the same conservative play calling.

I also think that we need someone that is going to excite recruits to come here. I want to research him a little more hopefully I can find something good

Can't remember where I read it

But supposedly he’s a badass recruiter. I don’t know enough about him to say I like him or not — but I think it’s likely based on his history with DE, and DE’s tendency to hire from his posse.

About damn time.

Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.

No band-wagoner fans allowed, pick a team and stick with em, throughout the good and the bad.
