Cozzetto headed to UW
Arizona State tight ends coach Dan Cozzetto appears bound for Washington either as offensive line coach and/or offensive coordinator.
Cozzetto could not be reached for comment Wednesday night, but sources said it appears that he will join first-year coach Steve Sarkisian's staff.
If the job is to become offensive coordinator, it could be too lucrative for Cozzetto, a native of Spokane who coached at Washington under Keith Gilbertson in 2003, to turn down. Jim Michalczik was going to earn $350,000 as Huskies offensive coordinator/offensive line coach before leaving after less than two months to become Oakland Raiders offensive line coach.
Cozzetto returned to ASU for a second coaching stint when Dennis Erickson was hired as head coach going into the 2007 season. He was Sun Devils offensive coordinator and offensive line coach under Bruce Snyder from 1992-99.
ASU has one assistant coaching change in Erickson's second season when Greg Burns replaced Al Simmons working with cornerbacks.

Interesting
If hes gone its definitely a loss – nice to have a former O-Coordinator as your TE coach.

Staff shuffling
The Republic is reporting that Bryce Erickson, the coach’s son, has been promoted from a GA position to runningbacks coach. Matt Lubick gets to add assistant head coach to his title. Cozzetto’s salary will be spread out among the rest of the staff.

Yeah I read that
I’m aware of what Lubick brings to the table, but I’m not so sure about little Erickson. I know that when DE came here originally, Bryce was basically his driver everywhere because ASU is scared to death of DE getting another DUI. Let’s hope he’s a decent coach b/c you know his dad won’t fire him if he sucks.

Somewhat related
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/2009-02-15-furloughs_N.htm
Coaches aren’t exempt from the furlough’s being implemented by the university.
But even at Arizona State — whose athletics program is financially self-supporting except for “very nominal” assistance from the university, says athletics director Lisa Love — football coach Dennis Erickson and men’s basketball coach Herb Sendek are being forced to lose 12 days’ pay between Feb. 2 and the close of the school’s fiscal year, June 30. (Depending on job classification, Arizona State’s furloughs, announced Jan. 28, are for 10, 12 or 15 days — double to triple the days being lost by employees of the other three schools.)
Erickson’s and Sendek’s deductions are being taken against their base salaries, just part of much broader and more lucrative compensation packages. Still, Erickson will lose $20,800 of a scheduled $450,000 and Sendek $13,600 of a scheduled $292,000, according to university spokeswoman Terri Shafer.
Love, whose formal title is vice president for university athletics, has a 15-day furlough like other high-ranking university officials, including President Michael Crow. The university has had to make $88 million in budget cuts in fiscal 2009, and the furloughs are projected to save $24 million, or about 1,200 jobs.
In athletics “we spend what we make,” Love says. "But we are part of the university.

This is unfortunate. I don’t want Herb Sendek taking days off down the stretch of the regular season. The furloughs are going to hurt the team.

Well it says
he’s being forced to take the days between Feb 2nd and June 30th — so he can wait till the season is over.

Clarification
Do coaches actually have to physically not work for their furlough day, or can they simply stay on the job without pay? Are there some sort of employment laws that dicate that they literally cannot do their jobs? Most coaches seem to be manic enough that I would almost guess they’d keep their regular schedule and just mark days down to take out of their paycheck.
And Dirk, regarding Bryce’s duties when he initially arrived on campus — was ASU really that concerned about Dennis getting into trouble again? My understanding was that the DUI was awhile ago and was a 1 time thing. It always infuriates me when the troglodytes down south try and give DE a hard time about it while ignoring the fact that their own coach has one as well. Not that I would excuse either man from showing horrible judgement, but ye gods — how hypocritical can you get???

Good questions..
I think they can work from home, but they legally must not be on the state-funded campus grounds – in case they tried to come back later and say they should have been paid.
So, technically, they could work from home.

Beatuofa, I think I will write up an article about the furloughs. I have some concepts of how it works, but I will iron those out in a piece.

that's what I was told
And Dirk, regarding Bryce’s duties when he initially arrived on campus — was ASU really that concerned about Dennis getting into trouble again? My understanding was that the DUI was awhile ago and was a 1 time thing.
At first they hired a driver to take him everywhere but he hated that, so Bryce started doing it. It’s not that they necessarily thought he was a drunk or anything like that — it’s more that they were just terrified of the bad PR. Take that FWIW. DE has a reputation of enjoying a drink on a regular basis (I’m not calling him an alcoholic or a drunk). But, when you have that one mark on your record and you are a public figure, it makes sense to take that extra step.
