First game was on Tuesday and was a good matchup, #4 ASU against #15 Missouri.
I went to the game. Josh Spence had the start for us nearly every pitchers the Tigers had. They tried the whole, pitch one guy one inning thing to try and limit our offense by allowing all their pitchers to throw like they were closing a game..did not work. Spence threw 125 pitches and had 13 strikeouts. Spence still has not allowed a run.
Kipnis hit a solo shot for his 4th on the season, and JC transfer Jered McDonald had a solo shot too, his first career HR, but other than that the offense was held in check.
The game ended in a 3-1 victory, making us 5-0 on the year.

Game 2 was another game against #15 Missouri. This time our ace, Mike Leake took the mound and he absolutely dominated. He had a no hitter going through 7 innings, and ended up throwing 8 shutout innings with 10 Ks. Our pitching is looking awfully good thus far. Leake's first two starts? 14 innings, 3 hits, 1 r, 0 ER, 17 SO. 0.00 ERA. Nice...
The game was another low scoring affair as Missouri's ace - and projected top 10 pick in the 2009 MLB draft kyle gibson, pithced 7 strong and struck out 8. We won 2-1.

On Friday we took on Northern Illinois, with Jason Franzblou getting his first career win for ASU. We won 6-1 and again, the pitchers starred. 9 innings, 1 unearned run, 8 hits for our pitchers. Matt Newman actually got the start going 4 innings, Franzblou went another 4.1 innings. Newman also had a HR, his second. Good game for the sophomore.

And finally #4 ASU took on our first Pac-10 opponent on Saturday, #22 Oregon State. We came from behind (we were down 3-0 at one point) behind home runs from Carlos Ramirez (5), and Jordan Swagerty (1). Seth Blair got the start, going 6 innings, allowing 1 ER and striking out 6. Freshman, and super reliever so far, Mitchell Lambson got the win. We head into the week at 8-0
We have #15 Missouri today, and then a three game set against Holy Cross during the week. GO ASU! Good way to start the season. It will be nice to see the offense pick up a little, but the pitching has been awesome.
