Director's Cup Final Standings

ASU Finishes 12th

The Directors' Cup is an accumulation of points from teams throughout a schools' athletic department. Schools can gain points from 20 total varsity teams, with 10 being men's sports and 10 women's.

For the record, Arizona finished in 24th. ASU finishes in 5th place overall in the Pac-10 while Stanford won yet again.

The final Pac-10 standings:

  1. Stanford
  2. USC
  3. Cal
  4. UW
  5. ASU
  6. UCLA
  7. Oregon
  8. Arizona
  9. Oregon State
  10. Washington State

Washington State really brought up the rear by finishing in 120th. That was behind such vaunted programs as Brown, William & Mary, Jacksonville State and Northern Arizona. The 120th position was also shared with Liberty.

I might be wrong

but doesn’t Stanford always win this thing because they field a team in just about every sport?

Your close.

They obviously do field a team in just about every sport but there is some cross-cancellation. They may have a stellar water polo team every year, but they lack hockey. If you look at all of the top schools, then you will see that they are all missing certain sports. Stanford this year didn’t score in Baseball, Women’s Track, Women’s Golf, Mens VB, and Men’s and Women’s LAX.

Also, each year the people who run the Director’s Cup choose at random which sports count.

When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome again. True story.

I thought they had more varsity sports

than any other school, right? Or at least in the pac 10? Anyway, it’s rigged. ha.

Oh they do. It's ridiculous.

Check out the link and look at it: http://www.gostanford.com/index-main.html?id=147

They even have something called Rowing LTW in addition to regular Rowing. And is Sailing even a varsity sport?

However, it is still just 10 of each gender’s and not a score of every sport.

I hate Stanford.

This is pretty absurd. Stanford needs to stop running their intramural sports out as legitimate, and focus even further on fielding a competitive football team.

I hate Stanford as much as anyone...

…but even I can admit they have one of the best overall athletic programs in the country. I was kind of shocked UCLA finished so low. Weren’t they SI’s athletic department of the year a couple of years ago?

When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome again. True story.
