Vontaze Burfict: Finger Pointing All-American
There are some fans and media members who have pointed their fingers at Arizona State junior linebacker Vontaze Burfict for having what they feel has been a disappointing season.
It once appeared that "The Meanest Man in College Football" would run roughshod over the college football landscape. However, given the the Star Wars: Episode I level hype that surrounded Burfict before the season, it was almost inevitable that there would be some degree of letdown.
With 36 total tackles, 5.5 for loss, and four sacks, he's had solid season, but a convincing argument can be made that he's been the third best linebacker on this Sun Devil team behind Colin Parker and Shelly Lyons. With the five remaining games all against mediocre-at-best- teams, he'll have a chance to make up some lost ground and quiet those doubters.
While his performance on the field is up for debate, there is one area in which Burfict is already a consensus All-American-the finger point.
Whether it's a point to the crowd as he runs from the tunnel, a point upward to celebrate a big play, or even a point that penetrates an opponent's jersey and pads and strikes them at the sources of their deepest fears in their soul, Burfict's versatility is unmatched.
If the same could be said of his play against the run and in coverage, ASU could be heading to the Rose Bowl.
