ASU Coaching Search: Todd Graham Leaves Pittsburgh For Arizona State, According To Reports
According to an explosion of reports on Twitter at roughly 12:20 PM Eastern time, Pittsburgh head coach Todd Graham has left the Panthers for the vacant ASU coaching position.
Formerly a linebackers coach under new Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez while at West Virginia, Graham has head coaching experience at Rice, Tulsa and Pitt. In 5 years, he has coached at three schools, with ASU being the fourth.
Where are we hearing this? Who better to tell the story than local Pittsburgh media?
Andrew Taglianetti is a defensive back for the Panthers.
and finally, Pat Forde confirms it.
There is a lot more out there, but enough of the Twittersphere.
Presuming that this is accurate, this is a resolution of an epic drama. Graham went 6-6 in his first season in the Big East, while putting together a 36-17 record at Rice and Tulsa. He is young (47) and could be around for a while if we can put together a good run.
I'm not sure what else to say at this point. There will be a lot more coming in the near future.

Nope.
My season tickets will not be renewed, nor will I be donating to the Sun Devil club if this is the hire.

Pitt fan here...
I’m an alumi and a season ticket holder. I’m so angry right now I am seeing double. I’m not hating on ASU obviously – but I’m warning you guys now. This guy is a snake oil salesman who hasn’t proved anything. This won’t be any fun for you guys, just as it wasn’t fun for us. He’s a carpet bagger who is only out for $$$. We were promised wins, and points on the board and got neither. Graham didn’t even tell his players face to face. The dude has NO honor.

hard to knock somebody for going home
but if he didn’t tell his players straight up, that’s pretty low. I remember how it goes
If I cared more about my UNC side, I'd call myself "Tar Volon," and that'd be awesome.

that is weird
they are in a bowl game so unless they had the week off to be at home or something that would suck.
If all the players aren’t back until next week then it makes sense.

better hope he brings
a malzahn or a morris type w/ him. dude seems a clown.
ehhhhh.... As much as I didn't want to loose him on the 9ers I would have liked Leavitt for the Devils..
"You have to reinvent yourself each year, ... What helped us was that there was some turnover each year." Bill Walsh...
young, defense oriented
I like it. Not a “name” is fine. He could be a good long term solution if things work out.
Needs to fire Bray ASAP and get Wilcox in as our DC.
I’m not a huge Mazzone fan, but i’d rather we didn’t have to change our offense scheme again, so need to lock him up.
Defense wins championships, so I’m excited that ASU has gone that route.
I’m curious to see if he can “win the press conference” and of course how he does in maintaining Erickson’s recruiting class now that Brousard has moved to UCLA.
I mean no offense here
but I think Wilcox is a pipe dream at DC. All accounts are that he loves it at Tennessee and plans to stay until one of these two things happen:
1. He’s offered an attractive (probably West Coast) HC position
2. He’s offered an attractive DC position under Petersen or Bellotti.
Had an offer from Texas last year and didn’t budge.
Best of luck under Graham. I really don’t know what to expect from him, but he starts with the major positive of not being Erickson.

perhaps
But you won’t know until you ask. Wilcox is a west coast guy and ASU does have a bit of returning talent on defense. With the right amount of money he might make the move to be closer to the west coast where he has family and the programs that he wants to be HC will see him regularly.
No idea how Graham will do. But his teams are disciplined (low penalties) and he’s a defense guy which I love (zig when everyone else zags). Better than June Jones IMO.

Agreed!!
We won’t know until we ask, but given this administration’s reluctance to go after any coach with credentials who is being pursued by others, they won’t talk to him. Instead, we’ll go find some retread or Div III last-place team to steal their DC.

sure, no harm in asking privately, behind the scenes
I just think (and hope) it won’t go anywhere. There are plenty of good DCs in the world that you should be able to get without going DIII or getting into a bidding war with a Tennessee or Texas or somebody

Coordinators...
It’s been reported the Mazzone is gone, so who will we get? Don’t expect to get a top coordinator as it seems this coach prob jumps around too much to have strong coaching allegiances. His already darted for U of A. Mazzonne leaving was about the last thing I wanted to hear.
