The Sun Devils baseball team looks to right the ship with a three-game weekend series against the Washington State Cougars. ASU was swept by Oregon State in Corvallis last weekend; a combination of cold weather and mediocre pitching led to the losses.
After what had been an excellent season, losing three in a row was a reality check. There will be no automatic victories, and every game has to be hard fought and execution has to be perfect.
This weekend brings the Cougars to Tempe, a team that is 14-14 on the season. ASU needs to improve on their play from last weekend, and a solid effort could lead to a sweep for the home team. After falling out of grace in Corvallis, hopefully some home cooking can help.
The biggest concern has to be the pitching -- are Tim Esmay's pitching arms getting tired? It might be time to give extended work to the less-used arms.
