A highly active day on the 2013 recruiting front continues for the Arizona State Sun Devils and head coach Todd Graham. After missing out on Tyler Bruggman, but landing the talented Josh Dobbs shortly thereafter, ASU has received a commitment from 2013 linebacker Chans Cox of Blue Ridge High School in Lakeside, Arizona, according to DevilsDigest.com.
Another commit to ASU and this is a big one - Chans Cox— Devils Digest (@DevilsDigest) June 13, 2012
This is a major get for Graham and ASU, as Cox was considered by many scouting services as the top 2013 player in Arizona. Cox had 16 total offers, including some from powers like Notre Dame, Nebraska, USC, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Boise State.
At 6'3, 230 pounds, Cox has great size and tremendous athleticism, to complement speed in the mid-to-upper 4.5s. He has good instincts and flies to the attack the ballcarrier, shows good agility, and can be good in coverage. He should be able to contribute immediately to the Sun Devil defense in 2013 to help ease the loss of Brandon Magee.
Playing both linebacker and running back at Blue Ridge, Cox rushed for 682 yards and 13 touchdowns, added another 142 yards and three touchdowns receiving while making 61 tackles on defense. He also punted 13 times for a 41.3 yard average. All of this was despite missing five games due to injury.
This is just the latest example of the remarkable turnaround ASU has made with the top in-state talent under Todd Graham. With D.J Foster in the fold this season and Chans Cox for next year, the dominoes are continuing to fall in the Sun Devils favor after years of missing out on the best players in Arizona.
We'll have more on this story later.
