The Associated Press All-America team is full of high-profile athletes and college football's top players, so it comes as no surprise that Sun Devil defensive tackle Will Sutton was featured prominently.
On Tuesday morning, Sutton was named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press and he joined Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley and Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey as the only repeat honorees from last year's All-American squad.
The recognition for Sutton is impressive, but a brief look into Sun Devil history shows just how rare a back-to-back appearance on the AP All-America team is for an Arizona State player.
Sutton joins a pair of Sun Devil legends in David Fulcher and Mike Richardson as the only Arizona State players to earn the honor from the Associated Press in back-to-back seasons.
The Pat Tillman Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year award winner enters the Holiday Bowl against Texas Tech with 11.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks on the season. Those numbers are significantly down from his 2012 totals when he finished with 23.5 tackles for loss and 13.0 sacks, but his impact was still felt.
Sutton was also listed as an Honorable Mention on Sports Illustrated's All-America list released on Tuesday morning. Sutton was joined by Arizona State teammates Chris Coyle (Tight End) and Marion Grice (All-Purpose) on Sports Illustrated's Honorable Mention list.
