The Sun Devils add another safety to their 2013 class. Johnson chose ASU over Arizona, Colorado, Oregon State and Fresno State.
James Johnson has signed his National Letter of Intent for Arizona State, choosing the Sun Devils over offers from Arizona, Houston, Oregon State, Nevada and Fresno State. Johnson is from Upland, California, and attended Upland High School. He has been committed to the Sun Devils since October of 2012.
Johnson is rated a three-star prospect by ESPN, the recruiting service ranks him as the No. 24 safety in the nation and the No. 60 player in the state of California. According to ESPN, his best traits are his ball skills, instincts and zone coverage.
He played wide receiver and defensive back in high school, but projects as a defensive back in Marron and Gold. His size (6-2, 198) makes it seem like he will play safety at Arizona State, and his size, combined with his instincts and toughness make it so he can compete for playing time right away.
