The Sun Devils' NCAA Tournament dreams were dashed on Thursday afternoon in heart wrenching fashion after ASU lost 80-75 to the UCLA Bruins in the Pac-12 Tournament.
In terms of RPI, the Devils currently sit at 86. They have suffered from a weak OOC schedule and some key losses down the stretch -- losing at Arizona isn't a problem in the eyes of the selection committee, but losses to teams with losing records (Utah, USC) in the last few weeks of the season is enough to make the Devils an NIT team in 2013.
Without further ado, your RPI update for March 15, thanks to the information from CBS Sports:
Overall Record = 21-12
Pac-12 Record = 9-9 (1-1 in Pac-12 Tournament)
Home Record = 15-4
Away Record = 4-6
Neutral Record = 2-2
Top 50 Record = 3-6
RPI = 86
SOS = 102
Signature Wins (RPI 1-30) = UCLA (25)
Quality Wins (RPI 31-100) = Colorado (39), @ Colorado (39), California (53), Stanford (75), Arkansas (92)
Bad Losses (RPI 101 or greater) = @ USC (116), @ Utah (158), DePaul (204)
Quick Analysis: 21 wins is a pretty good year, and we have to give a ton of credit to Jahii Carson for joining this roster and making it into a tough team in just one season. If Carson goes pro, ASU is in a world of hurt.
Next up for the Sun Devils: We'll likely learn of ASU's home game in the NIT on Sunday evening - expect a game on Tuesday or Wednesday night next week inside Wells Fargo Arena.
