Arizona State has received a letter of intent from its top safety recruit.

Georgia Tech, Miami, Nebraska and South Carolina are just a few of the schools that offered scholarships to Pennsylvania cornerback DeAndre Scott. But on National Signing Day, Scott decided to stick with his verbal commitment and fax in his letter of intent to Arizona State.

A 3-star recruit according to Rivals and Scout, Scott's offer list reflected interest traditionally reserved for 4 and 5-star recruits. According to Scott's Rivals profile, the 5-foot-8 cornerback drew scholarship offers from more than 20 different schools including at least one offer from a school in each of the six power conferences.

Scott's letter of intent is one of the most important the Sun Devils will receive as Arizona State looks to replenish its talent at the cornerback position after the losses of Osahon Irabor and Robert Nelson to graduation. The Sun Devils will sign at least six defensive backs in the class of 2014, but few if any garnered the attention that Scott did throughout his recruiting process.

Scott is also a unique recruit for Arizona State because the Sun Devils rarely receive commitments from players who hail from as far east as Pennsylvania. Sun Devil wide receiver Jaelen Strong is also a Philadelphia native, but Strong played his lone season of junior college football in Southern California which is a recruiting hotbed for Arizona State.

At Imhotep Charter School, Scott played three seasons of varsity football and played on offense, defense and special teams. During his junior and senior seasons, Scott registered a combined 13 interceptions and scored 18 total touchdowns, despite scoring just six of those touchdowns on offense.

Scott's athleticism is a welcome addition to the Sun Devils and of their defensive back recruits, he looks like he could break his way into the lineup faster than most.
