National Signing Day 2014: De'Chavon Hayes signs with ASU

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

With the graduation of Marion Grice, a new junior college running back hopes to make his mark in Tempe.

Under Todd Graham, Arizona State has received a plethora of contributions from junior college transfers and based on National Signing Day, it doesn't look like that trend is going to change.

Lackawanna Community College running back De'Chavon Hayes has faxed in his letter of intent and will join the backfield at Arizona State in 2014. Hayes becomes the second junior college running back to commit during Graham's tenure at Arizona State as he follows in the footsteps of Marion Grice.

Hayes is considered a 3-star recruit and comes in at No. 61 on Rivals' Top 100 JUCO recruits for the Class of 2014. Hayes was listed as a sophomore on the Lackawanna Community College roster in 2013 which indicates he will have two years of eligibility to make an impact at Arizona State.

In 2013, Arizona State began to receive contributions from another junior college transfer aside from Grice in wide receiver Jaelen Strong. The Sun Devils will likely incorporate Hayes into the offense beginning next season as his highlight film shows tremendous versatility and he will hope to carry on the explosive tradition Grice and Strong started under Graham.

Not only is Hayes a capable running back, he appears to be an excellent special teams player as he possesses the breakaway speed Arizona State has lacked in the kick return game.

Hayes verbally committed to Arizona State in December after receiving offers from Kansas, Oklahoma, Purdue, USC and more. Hayes' highlight film displays more explosive plays than most other Arizona State recruits, and it's a reason the Sun Devils will be excited to incorporate him into the offense next year.
