ASU Football: Sun Devils pick up committment from local quarterback Bryce Perkins

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona State picked up a commitment from one of the best duel-threat quarterbacks in the nation Wednesday night.

When Todd Graham took the head coaching job at Arizona State, he vowed to make the state of Arizona a priority in recruiting. Even though he was able to snag D.J. Foster out of Scottsdale in his first class, the Sun Devils have had a difficult time landing the elite talent in the state.

Wednesday night, Graham's local efforts in the 2015 class got off to a great start, as Arizona State has secured a commitment from Chandler High School quarterback Bryce Perkins, according to this twitter account.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback is listed as the No. 12 duel-threat quarterback in the nation according to Rivals.com. ESPN lists Perkins as the No. 13 duel-threat quarterback in the nation and the No. 4 prospect in Arizona.

In 2013, Perkins led Chandler to a 10-3 record, including their first victory over Arizona powerhouse Hamilton in school history. Perkins threw for 2,244 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2013, while also rushing for 808 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Perkins boasted offers from Arizona State, Arizona, Northwestern and UCLA. There was some speculation that Perkins may move positions at Arizona State, but according to ASUDevils.com, he will have a chance to play quarterback.

Perkins blood also runs through Tempe, as his father played running back at Arizona State. His brother is currently a running back at UCLA. Perkins is the third commitment for Arizona State in the 2015 class, joining running back Morie Evans and athlete Nick Ralston.

Just a reminder that all commitments are strictly verbal and non-binding until the prospect signs on the dotted line in February. Below are highlights from Perkins' junior season.
