DJ Foster has been named to the preseason Paul Hornung Award watch list.
He rushed for 523 yards and six touchdowns on 93 attempts last season and was second on the team in receiving with 63 receptions, 653 yards and four touchdowns. The Hornung Award is given to the most versatile player in college football each year so it makes sense that Foster's name was on the list given his rushing and pass catching abilities. Odell Beckham from LSU won the award last season.
Th winner is decided by 17 votes, 16 votes come a committee of sports journalists and NFL stars while the 17th vote is cast by the fans. Hornung was a legendary player in both the college and NFL ranks, winning the 1956 Heisman Trophy with Notre Dame and then NFL MVP with the Green Bay Packers.
Foster was named to the list with 74 other players in NCAA Division I college football. He will still need to make two more cuts where the committee trims the the list at the middle and end of the season in order to have a chance at winning the award.
