Lewis, from Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, VA., is rated as the No. 47 designated "athlete" in the nation. He is rated as the No. 17 player in the state of Virginia by ESPN. The 6-foot-4, 241-pound Lewis held offers from Ohio State, Florida State, and Mississippi, among others.
He committed to Arizona State back in September, just hours before the Sun Devils met UCLA in a nationally televised Thursday night game. Coach Todd Graham got the commitment a week after Lewis took his official visit to Tempe.
The Sun Devils ended up winning the Jaason Lewis sweepstakes despite losing to the Bruins later that night. Florida and new coach Jim McElwain made a late push but Lewis ended up honoring the verbal. According to ESPN, the athlete runs a 4.71 40-yard dash. So wherever he ends up on the field, Lewis will provide a nice burst of speed for the maroon and gold.
Lewis is No. 9 in the state of Virginia and No. 18 at his position according to Rivals.
