House of Sparky is continuing its Top 12 Plays of Christmas series to commemorate the best moments from the Arizona State Sun Devils’ 2016 football season. Follow along as we reveal a new play every day leading up to No. 1, which will be unveiled on Christmas Day.
Our No. 8 Play of the ASU Football Season: Jack Smith’s reverse handoff and beautiful throw to Tim White for a gain of forty yards.
After scoring only 14 points in a critical loss to Colorado in Boulder, the Sun Devils were looking to attack a high scoring Washington State team and did so by unleashing former high school quarterback Jack Smith’s arm.
The Devils lined up in the Sparky with junior running backs Kalen Ballage and Demario Richard in the backfield. Ballage took the handoff, ran to his left and handed the ball off to freshman receiver Jack Smith, who tossed the ball downfield to a streaking Tim White.
The Sun Devils would go on to convert this drive for six, but eventually fell short of defeating the Cougars in a 37-32 loss. ASU would fall to 5-3 on the season.
Check back in to House of Sparky tomorrow to see the No. 7 play in our 12 Plays of Christmas series!
