The Arizona State Sun Devils practiced with full pads and helmets for the third time this spring at the Kajikawa practice fields Friday night.
Last Practice: Thursday, March 22
Next practice: Tuesday, March 27
Special teams
There are two ways to look at what happened with special teams: either the kick unit is in trouble or the block unit is going to be elite. The defense blocked both a punt and a field goal during practice and put pressure on sophomore Brandon Ruiz again, forcing a miss wide right. The Sun Devils were tied for the lead in the country in punt blocks last season, so this could have more to do with that, but it’s something to look at moving forward.
Scrimmage
The only score of the day came on a handoff to Trelon Smith on the goal line. Other than that, all things were pretty equal. The biggest play for the defense came on an interception by Kobe Williams of Blake Barnett on a pass intended for N’Keal Harry. The throw went pretty much straight to Williams, who celebrated with Jalen Harvey and jawed a little back-and-forth with Harry after the play ended.
