Will Sutton Injury: Star defensive tackle injured in Oregon/ASU game

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

ASU's best defensive player was injured on the second play of the game.

On the second play of the game, star defensive tackle Will Sutton had knee-to-knee contact with Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. While Mariota fumbled and ASU recovered, the Sun Devils suffered a bigger loss: Sutton had to be helped off the field.

Sutton was seen on the sideline, perched on a trainer's table and icing his right knee. While that is usually a bad sign for a return to action against the Ducks, it is a good sign that the injury is not a long-term issue.

With 8 minutes left in the first quarter, it was announced that Sutton would not return, and was seen on the sideline using crutches for support.

Sutton's presence was definitely needed, as Oregon's rushing attack has cut up the Arizona State defensive front. Kenjon Barner scored a 71-yard touchdown run and the option attack of UO can only be strengthened by this development.

Now, it seems like ASU will have to deal without Sutton.
