Kevin Sumlin: Did ASU Make An Offer To Houston Coach?

There are conflicting reports surrounding the head coaching vacancy of the Arizona St. Sun Devils football team. Has Kevin Sumlin been offered the head coaching position?

Our colleague Doug Haller, who in my opinion is the most connected reporter into ASU athletics, has reported via Twitter the following:

Doug Haller@DougHaller Source: Arizona State has officially offered its football job to Houston coach Kevin Sumlin.

Meanwhile, Houston Chronicle reporter Sam Khan Jr. disagrees with that.

Sam Khan Jr.@skhanjr Per sources with knowledge of the situation, Kevin Sumlin has not been contacted nor been offered the Arizona State job at this time.

Finally, Craig Morgan gets in with his own version of the inside information:

@cmorgancbsfoxaz Source says Sumlin to #ASU "almost done deal," wants to bring OC Kingsbury, too. ASU denies offer has been made.

I'm going to go out on a limb: Kevin Sumlin has been offered the job to coach ASU in 2012, but he has to make sure his coaching staff is set up before making any decisions. Also, he wants his team to focus on the CUSA championship game on Saturday before making any big announcements.

In my opinion, he should wait until after the BCS game Houston plays in (if they win on Saturday), much like Randy Edsall did last season. That way, his team could focus and have the best possible chance to compete.

One thing is for sure: Arizona State is moving hard and fast on the coach of their choice. That is a welcome sight.
