Neither the Oregon Ducks nor the Arizona State Sun Devils have had very good seasons; Oregon is currently 14-14 overall, with a 7-9 mark in Pac-10 conference play. Their record, although quite mediocre, is much better than ASU's 10-18 tally. The Ducks are 3-4 on the road in conference play in 2011.
Arizona State is trying to save some face in their final homestand of the regular season, with games against Oregon and Oregon State. The Devils will continue to play their younger players more frequently, and this weekend is a good opportunity to see the future in action. Players like Keala King, while still raw and in need of experience, are showing flashes of brilliance in maroon and gold.
ASU should be able to keep this game competitive; in fact, they have already defeated the Ducks up in Eugene earlier this year. There's no reason that the Sun Devils can't pick up a much-need victory at home tomorrow night. At this point, it's about pride. Does ASU want to end this season pushing as hard as they can, or end up dragging their feet? The game tomorrow night will tell us volumes about the fight in this team.
In the win against Oregon on January 1st, Carrick Felix scored 19 points and led the team in scoring. Reserves Brandon Dunson and Ruslan Pateev both scored in double figures, and the ASU defense held Oregon to a miserable 32.1% shooting from the field. Will the Devils be able to repeat that display of defensive intensity? That remains to be seen, but try your best to show up tomorrow night for the game. ASU really could use the support!
