ASU Softball Defeats Oklahoma, 3-1 In College World Series

The Sun Devils (56-6) continued their perfect postseason on Thursday afternoon, defeating the Oklahoma Sooners 3-1 in the first round of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

Mandy Urfer delivered the game-winning RBI in the 4th inning, driving in two runs to give ASU a 2-0 lead. Shortstop Katelyn Boyd hit a home run in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead after OU's Haley Nix drove in the Sooners' only run.

ASU moves on to face the winner of the Florida/Missouri matchup, with the game taking place at 6:30 PM Pacific time on Friday night.

Dallas Escobedo pitched another dazzling game, going the distance and limiting the Sooners to only five hits through seven innings. The freshman won her 33rd game of the year.

Getting this first win was huge. The Devils can now rely on their strengths and focus on defeating the opponent, rather than feeling like their "backs are against the wall" in this double-elimination format.

Go Devils!
