ASU Baseball Rallies Against New Mexico, Walk Off HR Decides 4-2 Victory

Joey DeMichele is a hero tonight.

The Sun Devils were down 2-1 going into the bottom of the ninth, and things weren't looking good for the hosts of the Tempe Regional. The New Mexico Lobos (20-40) were winning against all the odds, and an impressive performance by Lobos pitcher Rudy Jaramillo had them thinking upset.

An incredible comeback was completed as DeMichele hit a game winning, three-run home run off reliever Gera Sanchez. Riccio Torrez and Johnny Ruettiger also scored on this decisive hit.

What an incredible way for the ASU baseball team to rally back. This was reminiscent of the ASU softball team's performance against Texas A&M in the first game of the Super Regional last weekend.

That's the Sun Devil way -- they keep battling. Brady Rodgers put together an excellent night, pitching eight innings and giving up only two runs to New Mexico.

This loss had to be heartbreaking for the Lobos, who have fought so hard to make the postseason by upsetting nationally seeded TCU in the Mountain West tournament.

In other news, the ASU softball team just defeated the Florida Gators in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Annie Lockwood hit a game-winning single off the third baseman's leg.

The postseason has been good to the Devils so far, and full of drama too. What a way to kick it off!
