The Arizona State Sun Devils put on an impressive display of talent on Monday night, defeating the Florida Gators 14-4 in Game 1 of the best-of-3 Women's College World Series final.
The game was never close, as ASU scored seven runs in the first two innings en route to amassing 14 runs.
Dallas Escobedo lost her edge as the game went on, giving up four earned runs to the Gators in the final two innings. While I applaud her commitment to winning the game, I am surprised Clint Myers didn't put in another pitcher to get the glory of a WCWS final appearance.
ASU collected 13 hits on the day, including a huge three-run home run by Krista Donnenwirth in the bottom of the second inning to give the Sun Devils a 7-0 lead. This home run signified the unofficial end of the game, and Florida was unable to stop the offensive attack of the Devils.
The Sun Devils attempt to win their second WCWS title in the past four years tomorrow night at 5:00 PM Pacific time. The game will be broadcast on ESPN, while online viewers can catch the action on ESPN3.com.
