ASU Softball: Sun Devils Sign 4 Players to Early Letters of Intent

One of the nation's best teams bolstered their ranks with the signing of four players to early NLIs.

Never content just to make it to yet another Women's College World Series, Arizona State head coach Clint Myers continues to work diligently with one of the nation's premier programs.

Those efforts received a boost today with the addition of four infielders—three from California, and one local player from Gilbert—to the 2013 class.

Here is some play information from ASU's release:

Chelsea Gonzales | Shortstop | 5-5 | R/R | Rosary High School | LaHabra, Calif.
Gonzales Hit .417 as a sophomore and brought in 13 runs en route to being named All-Trinity League Second Team. Also verbally committed to ASU as a sophomore. Improved last season to 27 hits, 21 RBI, nine doubles and a .466 batting average. Plays summer ball for Tony Rico of the Worth Firecrackers based in southern California.

Sashel Palacios | Catcher | 5-3 | L/R | Otay Ranch High School | Chula Vista, Calif.
As a sophomore at ORHS, Palacios hit .460 with a .505 on-base percentage. Had 34 runs scored and 43 RBI. Had an even more impressive season last year with a .523 batting average and .552 on-base percentage. In 2011 and 12, was named First Team Mesa League for both her sophomore and junior seasons. Plays travel ball for Team Muzino and 18UGold San Diego Renegades for coach Mike Fox. Helped lead her summer team to a sixth-place finish at the 16U Champions Cup.

Margaret Stahm | Catcher | 5-9 | R/R | Horizon High School | Scottsdale, Calif.
Stahm joins the Sun Devils with plenty of experience on and off the playingfield. At HHS under Bryan Casey, Stahm was named an Arizona 5A All-Region First Team honoree in 2011 and also Honorable Mention All-Arizona after hitting .525 with 45 runs and 41 RBI. As a sophomore, earned honorable mention Arizona 5A All-Region and East Valley Tribune All-Tribune. Off the field, she is a member of Horizon's National Honor Society and was listed on the Superintendent's Honor Roll from 2009-10. Plays club ball for Arizona Storm.

Marisa Stankiewicz | Third Base | R/R | Gilbert High School | Gilbert, Ariz.
Local product at GHS, hit .458 this past season with 39 runs scored and a .673 slugging percentage. Help lead her team to a 5A-1 final four in 2011 and was named to the Gilbert All-District Team and All-Tribune Second Team lastyear. Plays club ball for Arizona Killer Bees for coach Mike Grimaldi. Her brother is on the Sun Devil baseball team. Father played at Pepperdine and went on to a seven-year career of professional baseball and was a former assistant coach at ASU (2007-09), winning two Pac-10 titles.

The Sun Devils will return to the diamond on February 7th against New Mexico to kick off the Kajikawa Classic.
