Arizona State Basketball Player Rankings Week 2: Jahii Carson Leads The Way

Check out who was hot and who was not last week for the Sun Devils. Find out who is the Sun and the Devil of the week in our second batch of player ratings.

With their 97-70 victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers, the Sun Devils are 2-0 for the first time since 2009-2010. Herb Sendek collected his 100th victory as the Arizona State head coach and five Sun Devils scored in double figures for ASU.

Despite poor shooting, ASU defeated Cornell 64-53 on Tuesday night to improve to 3-0 on the season. Here is our second installment of our weekly player rankings.

The Sun (Player of the Week)

Jahii Carson - The redshirt-freshman from Mesa scored 20 points and dished seven assists against Florida A&M. Carson shot 7-for-11 from the field and was an impressive 6-7 from the free throw line.

Carson turned in another 20-point performance against Cornell on Tuesday night, scoring 21 points and serving up four assists. In this week's action, Carson averaged 20.5 points and 5.5 assists per game.

Best of the Rest

Jonathan Gilling - The sophomore from Denmark posted his first career double-double against the Rattlers, scoring 13 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Gilling also recorded three assists while shooting 4-for-8 from the field.

Gilling filled up the stat line again against Cornell, with nine points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Chris Colvin - The Sun Devil sixth man led the way off the bench against Florida A&M, with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. Colvin shot 5-for-9 from the field in 25 minutes of play, whole collecting two steals and playing very efficient on the offensive side of the ball.

Jordan Bachynski - The junior center put together another solid game for the Sun Devils, scoring 14 points, grabbing eight rebounds and blocking six shots against Florida A&M. Against Cornell, Bachynski blocked seven shots and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Bachynski has been a monster on defense so far this season, blocking 22 shots in three games.

Pleasant Surprise

Eric Jacobson - Last week, named Jacobson as the anti-player of the week. Against Florida A&M, the freshman from Chandler scored seven points and grabbed three rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench, showing vast improvement from the season opener.

Against Cornell, in only eight minutes of action, Jacobson contributed with three points and three rebounds.

Who's Not

The Devil (Anti-Player of the Week)

Evan Gordon - Gordon has been superb on defense, as he often gets the assignment of the opposing team's best scorer. However, offensively Gordon has yet to find his stroke. Gordon was 3-for-17 from the field this week, including just 3-12 from beyond the arc.

Gordon's shooting should improve as the season goes on, but right now he is ice cold.
