ASU vs. Oregon State First Half Observations

The upcoming 30 minutes will be highly contested while deciding tonights outcome. At half, ASU and OSU are tied up at 19.

1st Quarter

- Will Sutton shows no rust early, sack fumble combination with Junior Onyeali scoring a touchdown on the opening possession (7-0 ASU)

- OSU Wide Receiver Marcus Wheaton showcases big play capabilities via long run

- Kicker Trevor Romaine's 41-yard field goal was partially blocked (by Mike Pennel) yet somehow still went through the uprights (7-3 ASU)

- ASU comes out pass happy, quick easy reads for Taylor Kelly, mainly targeting Jamal Miles

- Sun Devils put together successful opening drive capped of by Cameron Marshall touchdown (14-3 ASU)

- The fast start could limit crowd noise, key element of succeeding on road.

- Cody Vaz consistently looking for Markus Wheaton, connects for 50 yard touchdown (14-10 ASU)

- Unexpected high scoring contest, teams sport the top 2 defenses in PAC-12 play.

- Despite a plethora of points, both squads applying good pressure

- Paul Randolph dialing up heavy blitzes, Vaz clearly rattled

- ASU special teammer Kevin Ayers block punt for safety (16-10 ASU)

- At the end of 1st Quarter action ASU over OSU 16-10

2nd Quarter

- Michael Eubank seeing slightly more action than previous weeks, utilized in short yardage situation

- ASU offense well balanced, 15 passes and 12 runs with 12:56 remaining

- Kelly sticking to high percentage/check down routes

- Jon Mora makes a 31 yard field goal (19-10 ASU)

- Sun Devil defense growing very susceptible to big plays

- OSU running back Terron Ward touchdown on 53 yard carry (19-16 ASU)

- Keelan Johnson failing to play assignment sound football

- Beaver head coach Mike Riley beginning to drop extra men in coverage

- Deveron Carr nice press coverage on 3rd down, forcing turnover on downs

- Kelly continuing to be very decisive and run well, 5 carries for 31

- Neither team performing well on 3rd down conversions, OSU 0-5/ASU 2-8 at 5:54

- OSU having costly penalties, 2 offsides and 1 unsportsmanlike conduct

- D.J. Foster been ineffective all game, limited opportunities

- Kelly downfield passes have been erratic, arm strength problems are evident

- Vaz succeeding in play action pass situations

- ASU cornerback Osahon Irabor having standout game, ninth pass break up, although costly dropped possible interception.

- Junior Onyeali with bonehead move by pushing Vaz post whistle extending OSU's drive

- 2 big sacks by ASU defensive line helps avoid pre-half late touchdown

- Trevor Romaine 45 yard field goal as time expired (19-19 AT HALF)
