ASU Basketball RPI Watch, 12/17/12

After a win and a loss on the hardwood, the Devils' RPI fell to 76, but their 9-2 record is still a big success for a team that won ten games all last season.

That's right, it's Monday. That means its time to check in on Arizona State's basketball RPI. Will Herb Sendek, Jahii Carson and company play in the postseason this year? Their RPI will have a lot to do with that.

ASU's RPI took a huge hit this week after losing to DePaul and playing Dartmouth, and the Sun Devils now have an RPI of 76 or 78 depending on where you look.

What exactly is RPI? It's what the selection committee looks at in March to help determine who meets the criteria for entry into the NCAA Tournament. Quality wins, strength of schedule, and quality of opponents are the determining factors.

Overall Record = 9-2

Pac-12 Record = 0-0

Home Record = 8-1

Away Record = 0-0

Neutral Record = 1-1

Top 50 Record = 0-1

RPI = 76

SOS = 131

Signature Wins (RPI 1-30) = None

Quality Wins (RPI 31-100) = vs. Cal State Northridge (94)

Bad Losses (RPI 101 or greater) = DePaul (143)

Complete schedule:

  • Central Arkansas (3-4, 0-0 Southland) | RPI = 190
  • Florida A&M (2-7, 1-0 MEAC) | RPI = 334
  • Cornell (4-5, 0-0 Ivy) | RPI = 226
  • Arkansas (5-4, 0-0 SEC) | RPI = 121

  • Cal State Northridge (6-3, 0-0 Big West) | RPI = 94
