Phil Mickelson is currently tied for 55th place after the first round of the 2012 Masters Tournament, shooting a +2 on Thursday. Mickelson occupies the same spot on the leaderboard as Rickie Fowler, Geoff Ogilvy and six other golfers after the first day of the prestigious tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.
Lefty's performance on Thursday was very consistent, save for one key hole: Phil triple bogeyed the 10th hole, needing seven shots to close out the par 4. On the day, Mickelson shot five birdies, four bogeys and a triple bogey.
Mickelson is one of Arizona State's most notable alumni, and has won the Masters three times before in 2004, 2006 and 2010.
Two other former Arizona State golfers are taking part in the Masters: Paul Casey and Chez Reavie. Casey is currently tied at 73rd overall after a +4 opening day, while Reavie is in a precarious spot at +7 and tied for 91st overall.
Casey last played for the Sun Devils in 2000 before going pro in November of that year. His best finish in the Masters came in 2004, when he finished in a tie for sixth place.
Reavie turned pro in 2004 but did not make the PGA Tour until 2008 and has been cut in both his appearances at the Masters.
We will keep tabs on Mickelson, Casey and Reavie as the Masters progresses into the weekend. Hopefully they will all play better in the coming days.
