After his selection in the 23rd round back in June, ASU linebacker Brandon Magee signed today with the Boston Red Sox. Magee was one of ten Devils selected in the MLB draft.

The Red Sox have granted Magee permission to finish out his ASU football career, before hitting bombs over the Green Monster.

"I am very excited to be apart of the Boston Red Sox organization and to have them give me the opportunity to play with them, and also stay on the football team because I am very excited about this year," said Magee.

For now, Magee is focused on his senior year of football for the Devils. He missed the entire 2011-2012 season with an Achilles injury, but appears ready to go for training camp in Camp Tontozona.

"I think he is faster and stronger and more explosive then he has ever been," head coach Todd Graham said. "Brandon will tell you he's in the best shape of his life."

During the 2010-2011 campaign, Magee had 73 tackles, second most on the team behind Vontaze Burfict. In the big time situations, Magee shined. He notched 13 tackles against rival University of Arizona, helping ASU regain the Territorial Cup. The expectations for Magee on the gridiron and diamond are at an all time high.

Despite Magee's agreement with the Red Sox, he also plans on pursuing an NFL career. Throughout the process of being a two-sport athlete, Magee has experienced numerous challenges.

"The struggle is staying healthy...going back and forth from weight lifting to playing baseball is totally opposite things," Magee said. "Because you have to get buff over here and flexible over there."

This led to a unique surprise for Magee who recently received a call from Bo Jackson, who successfully completed the endeavor Magee is beginning. Magee truly appreciated the call, while taking away numerous lessons from Jackson's experiences.

Today was the first step in a long process for Magee, one that may not fully pan out for years to come. Magee is essentially the stud high school prom date; all the girls want him to go with him. However, that high school kid can only have one date, but Magee wants two.

"I made a decision to play with the Red Sox but my decision making is far from over," Magee said. "They are still letting me pursue my football career and letting me go to the NFL, there's a lot more to come."
