Homecoming. The word is heavy with implication. It means the return of those who have come before to revel in the memories of time gone by. The postlude to a beautiful symphony. The period on the end of a run-on sentence.
The ASU football team has gone 61-18-3 in homecoming games, and for good reason: the crowd that fills the stands at Sun Devil Stadium is a checkered mix of old and new, coming together in one unified voice: GO! DEVILS!
In 2012, the Devils will face off against the UCLA Bruins on October 27 in front of a homecoming crowd. In the week prior, there will be a homecoming parade and a lantern walk, where students, faculty, and alumni head up the side of 'A' Mountain in what must be a surreal scene.
The first homecoming parade took place in 1926, and the tradition continues to this day. The most important tradition, football, has had great success in recent years, with the Sun Devils winning 8 of their last 9 homecoming games. May this trend continue into eternity.
