The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. In most locations across the United States, the weather is warm and well-suited for a long day of barbecuing and relaxation. You have a license to kick back, drink a beer and watch the sky explode with colorful flashes of brilliance stretched across the night canvas.

I am mindful of the reason as to why Independence Day exists, however. It is a recognition of our departure from the imperial leanings of the British Empire. It stands as a reminder that a group of people must unite under a common cause in order to prevail against tyranny.

Today, our armed forces are the main reason as to why we can celebrate our nation's birthday in such splendor. We take this moment to thank all of them for their service and their protection.

Our fallen hero, Pat Tillman, was one of those soldiers. We at House of Sparky have long honored him with stories and remembrances. Here is a small sample of our coverage of Tillman over the past two years. To make a donation in Pat's memory, go to the Pat Tillman Foundation.
