There's no two ways about it: 2009 was a terrible year for Arizona State football. After beginning the year a solid 4-2, the Sun Devils dropped their final six games, including a tough 20-17 loss to Arizona.
However, the season was not devoid of amazing moments. Two of the greatest, in fact, happened in the team's final victory of the year, a thrilling 24-17 home win over Washington on October 17th. Thanks to the video skills of JediASU, let's relive them now as part of the Saturday Football Fix series.
The teams were tied at seven heading into the second quarter. On the quarter's first play, the Devils deployed a little trickeration:
That gave ASU a lead that they held until late in the fourth quarter. Washington kicker Erik Folk connected on a 29-yard field goal with 3:50 left to tie the game. ASU's ensuing possession stalled, and after a Washington three and out, ASU took over possession at the 50-yard line with just 13 seconds left.
Time for the Hail Mary and a gimpy Chris McGaha...
Ballgame.
