The Arizona Cardinals had to trim their preseason roster from 90 down to 75, and a former Arizona State player was among the casualties.
Safety Eddie Elder went undrafted in April, but soon latched on with the hometown Cardinals. Now, he is out of work.
Since coming over from the juco ranks prior to the 2010 season, Elder saw action in all of the team's 25 games, including 20 starts. Last season, he made 11 starts at free safety and recorded 66 tackles and one interception. While undersized at 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, Elder had shown a nose for the ball and had good range in the secondary.
During the Cardinals' four preseason games, Elder had made five tackles.
