ASU vs. NAU: Early Quarterback Analysis

Tonight's season opener against NAU marks the beginning of the "Speaking Victory" era in Tempe, and all eyes have been focused on the Sun Devil quarterbacking situation.

Taylor Kelly made his first career start tonight, and Michael Eubank is also going to see a lot of action. Through the first quarter, this is what we've seen.

Taylor Kelly: He looked good on the first drive. The first play was a designed rollout to his right, where he found a crossing D.J. Foster for a 16-yard gain. He later scrambled for nine yards and a first down, but took a tremendous hit. A few plays later, he showed good poise in finding Richard Smith for a 16-yard gain, but rushed a throw in the face of pressure and overthrew an open Chris Coyle. His final play of the drive was a third down conversion to Coyle, who showed off some nice spin moves.

The Kelly-to-Coyle connection sparked the second drive with a pass along the seam for 49 yards. When the Devils got to the 10, Eubank entered the game.

Kelly showed great touch on a crossing pattern to Smith for 20 yards.

Michael Eubank: Eubank entered and handed off twice. After a false start penalty, Eubank ran a keeper and bulled his way to the 1-yard line, where two Cameron Marshall runs resulted in another touchdown.

Eubank saw action on a third down down, and converted with a designed run. He showed good speed getting to the corner and ran for 13 yards.
