As first reported by the digitally savvy William Boor of The State Press, Arizona State freshman linebacker Carlos Mendoza is out for the season.
Mendoza injured his shoulder against the Illinois Fighting Illini while making a tackle. Prior to the injury, Mendoza had intercepted two passes and was asserting himself at the WILL position, roving the middle of the field.

This is a big disappointment for all of us, as his performance on Saturday was a great indication of his potential. We wish him the best in his recovery and now hope all the more that Brandon Magee can remain healthy for the rest of the season.
It's really too bad: it was great to see a No. 7 on ASU defense playing the game the right way.
