The quarterback ranks are thinning at Arizona State as head coach Todd Graham announced that redshirt sophomore Michael Eubank will transfer on Friday.

Graham said after Friday's practice that Eubank has been granted his release from the program and that the Sun Devils will help Eubank find the best possible fit for him in the near future.

"He got his release from us today and we wish him the very best," Graham said. "He's a great young man, and I'm going to try and find him a home."

When Graham arrived at Arizona State, many folks assumed that Eubank was the ideal quarterback to lead the spread-option attack the head coach has employed throughout his coaching career. At 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, Eubank is a physical specimen with a strong arm and speed to match. However, Eubank was passed over in favor of Taylor Kelly and spent the 2012 season as the backup.

This year, Eubank was technically the third-string quarterback on the depth chart although he did see some playing time in specific personnel packages. Most notably, Eubank was a goal line quarterback for the Sun Devils and was often asked to carry the football near the end zone.

Eubank's failed quarterback keeper attempt from inside the 1-yard line in the Pac-12 Championship game was a turning point in the Sun Devils' failed comeback effort against Stanford.

Eubank finishes his career at Arizona State with 38 completions on 59 attempts for 400 yards and three passing touchdowns. The Corona, Calif. native also rushed 76 times for 243 yards and seven touchdowns in two seasons at Arizona State.

The Sun Devils will now enter the Holiday Bowl with just two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster in Taylor Kelly and Mike Bercovici. As of now, Arizona State has a lone verbal commitment at the position for the class of 2014 recruiting class in San Marin High School (Calif.) quarterback Manny Wilkins.

Wilkins has been a tremendous asset for the Sun Devils' in recruiting as he has helped push other notable recruits to Arizona State, but it looks like Graham and Co. will have to target another quarterback to help solidify the program's depth at the position moving forward.
