Marion Grice injury: Arizona State star running back out for Holiday Bowl

Marion the Barbarian's lower leg injury hasn't healed enough to play in his final game as a Sun Devil.

There will be no surprise return from Arizona State senior running back Marion Grice (lower leg) for Monday night's Holiday Bowl, according to CBS Sports' Jeremy Fowler.

The Arizona Republic's Doug Haller first reported that Grice was "doubtful at best" two days ago so Fowler's confirmation doesn't come as much of a surprise.

The exact nature of Grice's injury hasn't been fully divulged at this point with different outlets calling it everything from a bruise to a broken tibia. Head coach Todd Graham originally stated Grice's injury was "a three-week deal" but that prognosis seemed to be a bit optimistic considering he hasn't played since Nov. 23.

Grice will finish his last season at Arizona State with 1,434 total yards from scrimmage and 20 all-purpose touchdowns, two shy of the school record. In two years as a Sun Devil, Grice compiled 1,675 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns on 294 carries. On top of that, he also chipped in 91 receptions for 863 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns.

D.J. Foster should carry a majority of the load in Grice's absence. With Grice gone against Arizona and Stanford, Foster racked up 292 total yards and four all-purpose touchdowns.
