For most of the season, the Arizona State Sun Devils held the top spot in the ACHA national rankings. However, a brief slump at the start of the second semester caused them to drop to No. 2, and despite a recent surge in the form of a five-game winning streak, the Sun Devils were unable to reclaim the top spot in next month's national tournament.
Nevertheless, ASU is still in a prime position to take home their first national championship. With the reveal of the tournament bracket, ASU was selected as the No. 2 seed in the tournament, with current No. 1 Adrian taking home the top spot. As the 2nd seed, the Sun Devils will receive a first round bye, and subsequently face the winner of the opening round game between Rutgers and Navy on March 2nd. ASU did not face either of those teams during the regular season
Last season, ASU earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament, but was stunned in the opening round by 13th-seeded Oakland, whose magical run ended with a runner-up finish to eventual champion Delaware. The Sun Devils exacted some measure of revenge with a 3-2 win earlier this year.
ASU fans will be pleased to know that the Arizona Wildcats did not make the 20-team tournament, despite being ranked No. 18 in the latest polls.
The tournament will be held from March 1st through March 6th at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois. A full schedule of the tournament's action can be found here
