Bracketology Update, February 5: ASU in NCAA Tournament projection for ESPN

March Madness is closing in, and the Sun Devils are firmly on the bubble in this week's bracketology update.

USA TODAY Sports

Arizona State's basketball team split their road trip to the state of Washington, and find themselves 17-5 with 9 games to go in the season. The Sun Devils have an RPI of 63 and their Strength of Schedule is 112. The time has come to look at the March Madness bracketology - the NCAA Tournament is near!

Joe Lunardi kept the Sun Devils in his bracket, but Jerry Palm sees ASU on the outside looking in with just a few weeks left to play.

Lunardi, ESPN's famed prognosticator, thinks ASU's position is a bit more precarious, and has projected the Sun Devils will play Indiana State in First Four action in Dayton. The winner of the Arizona State/Indiana State matchup would earn a 12 seed in the East regional and would take on Minnesota, a 5 seed.

Palm, CBS Sports' resident bracketology expert, has kicked the Sun Devils out of the bracket after the loss to Washington. ASU is now the 'second team out' for CBS.

Finally, Chris Dobbertean of SB Nation has Arizona State firmly in the bracket, facing off against Georgetown in a 5-12 matchup in the South bracket. That's a very interesting matchup for the Sun Devils.

At 17-5, we've projected that ASU needs to win 24 games to comfortably make the NCAA Tournament. The Sun Devils can do a lot to solidify their ground with a home sweep against California and Stanford this weekend. Just win, baby.
