Before the Week That Was gets rolling, we at House of Sparky would like to congratulate the Arizona State baseball and softball teams on their successful seasons. While each of their runs ended sooner than we hoped, both teams surpassed expectations and created palpable excitement for Sun Devil Athletics entering 2013.
But for those diehard Devils who haven't gotten their diamond fix, we'll be delving deeper into ASU's baseball and softball seasons in their respective Year in Review series. Now that I got that shameless plug out of the way, here's Arizona State's Week in Review:
Four stories to read from last week
Four Star QB Commits to Sun Devils: Northern California signal caller Manny Wilkins gave Arizona State a verbal commitment on Thursday. Wilkins is rated a four-star prospect by Scout.com and was recently invited to the Elite 11 quarterback competition finals later this month.
Cameron Marshall's Path to the Pros: Former Arizona State running back Cameron Marshall is beginning his professional football career with the Miami Dolphins. Read about his journey to the NFL in a fabulous piece by Kerry Crowley.
Pac-12 Quarterback Rankings: The House of Sparky staff chimes in on the league's top signal callers. Find out where Arizona State sits in our rankings and which team we feel has the best quarterback.
Summer of Legends Series No. 92: Find out about one of the most influential Sun Devils in the school's history. Jeremy Staat was an All Pac-10 player for Arizona State in the 1990's and later served in the United States Military.
News and Notes
- A big tip of the cap to the Arizona State softball team. Another Women's College World Series appearance for Clint Meyers and company. Even though they went 0-2 in the tournament, with only one senior in the starting lineup, the future looks bright.
- Arizona State sophomore golfer Neomi Jimenez was named a Second Team All-American this week. Jimenez finished this season with the 14th-lowest scoring average in the nation and was named a First Team All-Pac-12 selection.
- The early season Pac-12 television schedule was released earlier this week. ASU will open against Sacramento State on Thursday September 5th at 7 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks. The following week, ASU hosts Wisconsin at 7:30 p.m. on either ESPN or ESPN2. The Halloween contest against Washington State will be played at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
We lose 2-0 to Michigan. That's the end of our #WCWS run. We finish the season 50-12. Thank you fans for a wonderful year!
