ASU Football Recruiting: 14-Year-Old Commits To Devils

Fourteen year old Loren Mondy hasn't even played a down in high school yet — let alone taken his first class — but he already knows ASU will be where he's playing college football.

Coach Todd Graham's recruiting of Mondy makes it a first for Sun Devil football. Is recruiting a 14-year-old too much or is Graham getting ahead of the game?

Coach Todd Graham and the Sun Devils aren't wasting any time on the recruiting trail, and 14-year-old Loren Mondy clearly shows age isn't a factor when bringing in the best talent possible.

The Texas-native just promoted from the eighth grade this year, and hasn't even stepped foot onto a high school campus, but has already decided where he'll be going to college.

Listed at 6-foot, 225 pounds, Mondy is able to play both linebacker and defensive end, thus filling the ‘devil' linebacker spot for the Sun Devils. Here's what Mondy told ASUDevils.com about his preemptive commitment to the program:

"I went to Arizona State (satellite) camp at Sam Houston State and coach (Todd) Graham saw me and love me and asked if I could come down there, so we did last weekend. I was hoping to get offered and it happened the first day we were there ... I'm really happy about it. My dad is really happy about it too."

His father, Michael Mondy, has close ties with coach Graham. Michael played for Graham in high school and at East Central University.

The incoming freshman plans to attend Lake Ridge High School in Mansfield, TX, but still doesn't know if he will play on junior varsity or varsity just yet.

Mondy has said to be able to run a 4.8 40-yard dash and bench press 230 pounds as an eighth grader.

His commitment makes him the youngest known football prospect ever to commit to ASU.

Three other big college football programs have knowingly made similar offers to junior high athletes this offseason, with one being the National Champions, Alabama and coach Nick Saban.
