The Backstory: We come to No. 43 in our list of Sun Devil Legends. It belonged to a Sun Devil fullback in the early 1970's.
He had a career game in the 1972 Fiesta Bowl and was a three-year letterman for the Sun Devils. His name is Brent McClanahan.
The Player - Brent McClanahan (1970-1972)
McClanahan is one of the best fullbacks in school history, earning first team All-WAC honors in 1972. He rushed for 100-yards four times that year, including 171 yards against Missouri in the 1972 Fiesta Bowl.
McClanahan rushed for 171 yards on against BYU, 167 yards against UTEP and 153 yards in a Territorial Cup victory over Arizona in 1972.
While at Arizona State, McClanahan had a combined record of 32-3. His teams won two Fiesta Bowls and a Peach Bowl.
After his time in Tempe, McClanahan spent six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. After his professional career was finished, he went back to school and got his Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Cal State Bakersfield. McClanahan is currently a business teacher.
Who Wears it Now
The number 43 is currently worn by Arizona State defensive end Davon Coleman. The senior from Cleveland, Ohio, had 11 tackles for loss last season and figures to be a fixture on the 2013 ASU defense.
