A lot of news off the field this week for the ASU football team, including a few Sun Devils earning high preseason honors. Sophomore D.J. Foster was one of 44 players to be named to the Hornung Award Watch List. The Hornung Award is given out to the most versatile player in college football.
Reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year Will Sutton was named the sixth best player in college football by USA Today Sports. Despite being No. 6, there were three Pac-12 players ahead of him, Marcus Mariota (5) and Marqise Lee (3).
Good news for the future of ASU football, as last week the Sun Devils got a commitment from a 14-year-old who has played as many high school football games as me (that would be zero).
Loren Mondy will graduate high school in 2017, meaning by the time he gets on campus, I will be broke, out of work and living back with my parents.
Five Stories to Read from Last Week
Milestone Monday - Chris Young: The staff here at House of Sparky debates whether we think Chris Young will make it to the 100-tackle mark. Find out who think Young hits the mark and which staffers are incredibly pessimistic.
Pac-12 Defensive Line Rankings: Our Pac-12 position previews continue with the defensive line. The Sun Devils return Will Sutton, Junior Onyeali, Devon Coleman and Jaxon Hood.Is that enough to earn our top spot?
ASU lands commitment from a 14-year-old: Loren Mondy was offered a scholarship by Todd Graham and the youngster jumped on the opportunity. He has four years until his commitment becomes official but for now he can tell his friends he is an ASU verbal commit.
Manny Wilkins talks Recruiting and ASU: The future Sun Devil signal caller took part in the prestigious Opening football competition in Oregon last week. Wilkins finished just outside of the Elite 11 but overall had a strong showing. Wilkins chatted with SB Nation Recruiting about the experience.
ASU Quarterback Postion Summery: Each week until football season, the ASU athletic staff is putting together positional previews for the football team. Up first are the quarterbacks.
