The USA Today released its inaugural coaches poll for 2013 Thursday morning and the Arizona State Sun Devils did not make the cut.
Despite a promising group of returning starters and high expectations from within the program, Todd Graham's peers did not show the Sun Devils the respect they believe they deserve. Arizona State received 51 votes Thursday, good for No. 32 in the rankings (too bad the poll doesn't extend that far, right?)
After finishing last season at 8-5 including three consecutive victories to end the season, the Sun Devils finished in the "Others Receiving Votes" category in the final 2012 poll.
The 2012 National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide retained its first place status as expected. Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford and Georgia round out the top five.
The SEC boasted the most teams in the top 25 with six. The Big Ten and Pac-12 were second in total representatives with five each.
The Sun Devils are set to play a whopping six teams who currently reside on this preseason rankings list. Those opponents are as follows: Sept. 14 vs. No. 23 Wisconsin, Sept. 21 vs. No. 4 Stanford, Sept. 28 vs. No. 24 USC, Oct. 5 vs. No. 11 Notre Dame, Nov. 16 vs. No. 25 Oregon State and Nov. 23 UCLA.
There's no guarantees the Devils will be ranked if they manage to "upset" Wisconsin at home in the second game of the season. But with Stanford as high as they are, you can beat your season tickets ASU will be in the top 25 if they manage to start 3-0.
Here's an interactive version of the poll:
