Saturday was a banner day for the Arizona State football program, and it wasn't just because of the excitement surrounding the Camp Tontozona scrimmage
On Saturday evening, four-star defensive end Connor Humphreys of Portland, Oregon held a press conference to announce his verbal commitment to Arizona State, according to ASUDevils.com

Though Tontozona grabbed headlines in the morning, the significance of Humphreys' announcement made Saturday one of the most exciting days for the Arizona State football program since last season's bowl victory.
According to Rivals.com, Humphreys is the the top ranked player in the state of Oregon and the seventh best defensive end nationally. Rivals also ranks Humphreys as the 78th overall prospect in the nation for the class of 2014.
The 6-foot-3, 257-pound is one of just two four-star recruits Todd Graham has received pledges from for the class of 2014. The other is Chaparral wide receiver Tyler Whiley, although some recruiting services list quarterback commit Manny Wilkins as a four-star recruit.
ASUDevils.com reports that during Humphreys' press conference, he talked about his close relationship with coach Todd Graham and how Humphreys believes that he will be in the running for playing time come next fall.

247Sports reports that Humphreys made an unofficial visit to Arizona State on July 26, and just two weeks later, Humphreys narrowed down his choices to five schools.
On Saturday, Humphreys chose Arizona State over offers from USC, UCLA, Wisconsin and Oregon State. Even though Rivals.com ranks Humphreys as the top recruit in the state of Oregon, the Central Catholic High School product does not have an offer from the Ducks.
