ASU Athletics Week in Review: August 12-18

Football season is nearly upon is as the Arizona State football team returns from Camp T this week. It is now less than three weeks until kickoff against Sacramento State. The Sun Devils had a productive week in Payson, team building and fixing problems on the field.

The annual Camp T scrimmage was dominated by the offense and Graham spoke highly of the offensive line. Freshman Ellis Jefferson continues to have a strong preseason, getting more first teams reps as practice continues.

The Sun Devils picked up a major commitment this week from a defensive end from Oregon. Read more about that and more in this week's week in review.

Five Stories to Read from Last Week

Camp Tontozona Scrimmage Report: Coach Todd Graham was not pleased with the defensive effort in Saturday's scrimmage. The offense dominated with the offensive line earning high praise from coach Graham.

New Wide Receivers Emerging for ASU: Jaelen Strong and Ellis Jefferson are emerging as playmakers for the Arizona State offense. Richard Smith, Joe Morris and Ronald Lewis are all receivers that will play early in their ASU careers.

Sun Devils left off AP Top 25: Just like with the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Arizona State Sun Devils were not included in the initial top 25. ASU received 53 votes, which puts them right around No. 30.

Sun Devils Land Connor Humphreys: Todd Graham and company picked up their highest rated recruit on Saturday night when 4-star DE Connor Humphreys committed to Arizona State. Humphreys is the No. 78 player in nation according to Rivals.com.

Haber's Hunches: Ben Haber returns for another edition of Haber's Hunches. This piece focuses on Marion Grice and how many touchdowns he will score this season.

News and Notes

  • The Arizona State men's basketball team went a perfect 3-0 on their trip to China. Arizona State capped the trip off with a 99-77 victory over Fuijan SBS in Nanning, China. Jahii Carson dropped 24 points in 24 minutes and Calaen Robinson scored 17 points off the bench for Arizona State.
  • Marcus Ball injured his shoulder in Saturday's scrimmage and was not practicing on Monday in Tempe. Robert Nelson received first team FS reps in Monday's practice. DJ Foster was back in practice and was not wearing a non-contact jersey.
