Throughout the long and tedious days of fall camp, outlining the Sun Devils' depth chart appeared relatively clear. However, those assumptions can finally be tossed out the window because Todd Graham's word now reigns supreme. The depth chart is now out and it can be seen below.
The Arizona State 2013 Fall Depth Chart
Rapid Reaction
- Before JUCO wide receiver Jaelen Strong stepped foot into Tempe, Arizona, he was flooded with hype. Strong validated the optimism with a strong preseason camp, earning himself a starting spot. Strong can now adjust his focus from getting on the field, to becoming one of the premier targets in the Pac-12.
- At running back, D.J. Foster gets the nod. But in Mike Norvell's offense, the tail back will actually see more playing time, meaning Marion Grice is slightly ahead, as expected. Foster will find plenty of ways onto the gridiron, even participating as the team's kick returner.
- On the defensive side of the ball, there appears to be more fluidity and job statuses up in the air. Robert Nelson got listed as the starting field safety and boundary corner. Before the opening game against Sacramento States rolls around, Nelson will know where he belongs, but regardless its on the field. Nelson received praise from Todd Graham on his willingness to move around and do so effectively.
- Over at linebacker, Chris Young also got the nod at two different positions via Spur and Will. Young continues to get more repetitions at the Will linebacker spot, but he may move around depending on the play of Salamo Fiso and Anthony Jones.
- In the least talked about facet of football, special teams, the competition at punter may finally be resolved. Dom Vizzare appears to be ahead of Matt Haack, who is the only scholarship player in the bunch.
